The Bastrop Opera House is excited to announce auditions for Annie! Set during the Christmas season of 1930s New York, this beloved Broadway classic follows an irrepressibly optimistic orphan whose spirit — and unforgettable songs — will have the whole family smiling long after the curtain falls.
This production brings together performers of all ages, from our youngest orphans to seasoned adult leads, for a story about hope, family, and finding home.
Audition Format
Auditions will take place at the Bastrop Opera House. Someone will greet you in the lobby and walk you through what to expect next.
What to Prepare
A 32-bar cut from a song in a similar style to the show. Bring a track — we'll have a Bluetooth speaker on hand (no a cappella)
One audition side, prepared for your monologue. Memorizing it is encouraged, but printed copies will be available if you need them
Please note: you may be asked to read a different side, or sing with our music director, Marc, before your audition is complete.
Dance Call
There will be a dance call at the end of the audition day, in two parts:
4:00–5:oo pm: youth dance call
5:00–6:oo pm: adults dance call
What to wear: comfortable clothes you can move in, and closed-toe shoes — sneakers, jazz shoes, or character heels (adults) all work well. If you have any tap experience, bring your tap shoes.
Rehearsal Schedule
Weekdays (Mon–Thu): Evenings, 6:00–10:00 pm (minors released by 9:00 pm)
Weekends: Daytime
Pickup rehearsals: Thursday, December 10 and Thursday, December 17
Some rehearsals will fall in the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving — please note all conflicts on your audition form.
Please note: The last two weeks of rehearsals will run until 10:00 pm (or a little later) to ensure we get full runs of the show before opening night. These weeks will be long, and we apologize in advance, but we will need all cast members to stay for the entire rehearsal and the last two weeks of rehearsals. No conflicts will be allowed during TECH WEEK. Sunday, November 29th-Friday, December 4th. (Opening Night).

Roles Available
Annie
Must be able to appear at age 11, Female-Identifying. Must be comfortable wearing a wig. Energetic and optimistic orphan who never gives up hope that better days are ahead.
Vocal Range: A3-G5
Oliver Warbucks
Must be able to appear aged 40-65. Male-Identifying. Must be comfortable shaving his head or wearing a bald cap. A powerful billionaire who always has his mind on business, but has a kind heart looking for someone to love.
Vocal Range: B3-Gb5
Grace Farrell
Must be able to appear aged 25-35. Female-Identifying. Loyal and intelligent private secretary to Oliver Warbucks. She brings Annie and Warbucks together.
Vocal Range: Bb3-G5
Miss Hannigan
Must be able to appear aged 35-60. Female-Identifying. Desperate and unhappy with her lot in life, she is the alcoholic orphanage matron who is Annie's nemesis.
Vocal Range: A3-F5
Orphans
Aged 7-14. Female-Identifying. Any voice type:
The orphans are tough, neglected girls who are at the same time honest and lovable. They act like siblings - looking out for each other but also fighting each other constantly. The orphans include:
MOLLY | Age 6-7: The littlest orphan; she latches onto Annie for love and protection.
KATE | Age 7-8: The second youngest orphan after Molly.
TESSIE | Age 10: The crybaby of the orphanage.
JULY | Age 12: The quietest orphan.
PEPPER | Age 12: The toughest orphan, always getting into fights.
DUFFY | Age 13: The oldest orphan, usually forced to help Annie break up the fights.
Rooster
Must be able to appear aged 35-50. Male-Identifying. Miss Hannigan's greedy and dishonest brother.

Lily St. Regis
Must be able to appear aged 25-35. Female-Identifying. Rooster's girlfriend who is also dishonest and out for a quick buck.

Star to Be
Must be able to appear aged 18-25. Female-Identifying. Aspiring Broadway actress who sings during NYC.

Roosevelt
Must be able to appear aged 45-60. Male-Identifying. Must be able to imitate Roosevelt. The President of the United States of America, who takes an immediate liking to Annie and her optimism. Must be able to imitate Roosevelt.

Bert Healy
Must be able to appear aged 30-55. Male-Identifying. A popular and charming radio announcer.
