Discover life as an islander with the story of the 38 planes that were diverted to Gander on September 11, 2001.
This production brings together a full ensemble of strong vocalists and actors ready to bring the warmth, humor, and resilience of Gander's people to life — a true story about community and the kindness that emerges in the face of the unimaginable.
Audition Format
Auditions will take place at the Bastrop Opera House. Someone will greet you in the lobby and walk you through what to expect next.
What to Prepare
A cutting of a contemporary musical theatre song that is no longer than 1 minute, showcases your vocal range, and gives you an opportunity to demonstrate your acting ability. Please use accompaniment or a backing track — do not sing a cappella.

Slate — At the beginning of your video, please state your name, the title of the song you will be performing, the role or roles you are interested in (if applicable), and whether you are available to attend callbacks on Saturday, October 24, 2026 at 12:00 pm.

Reading — Choose one of the provided audition cuttings and perform it on camera. You do not need to be memorized and may have the material in hand. You may have another person read the other character or characters off camera. Focus on making clear acting choices and connecting with the material.
Submit Your Audition — Email your video audition to Director Doug DeGirolamo at ddeg447@gmail.com. You may attach the video or provide a link where it can be viewed.
Deadline: 11:59pm on Saturday, October 17. Video auditions received after the deadline may not be considered.
Callbacks: Saturday, October 24 at noon.

Cast size: 12 — 6 men, 6 women (may also be produced with a larger cast). Larger doubling of roles is noted; however, all characters double as smaller parts, including town staff, passengers, children, and animals.
Diane Secondary roles: Crystal, Brenda. Age Range: 50s–60s. Vocal Type: Warm, natural contemporary Soprano with strong mix up to D.
Hannah Secondary roles: Margie, Mickey. Age Range: 40s–60s. Vocal Type: Contemporary Soprano with strong pop belt and mix up to E.
Janice Secondary roles: Britney, Flight Attendant. Age Range: 20s. Vocal Type: Contemporary Soprano with strong pop belt and a mix up to E.
Beulah Secondary role: Delores. Age Range: 40s–60s. Vocal Type: Mezzo with belt up to B.
Bonnie Secondary role: Martha. Age Range: 30s–40s. Vocal Type: Mezzo with belt up to B.
Beverley Secondary roles: Annette, Reporter. Age Range: 40s–50s. Vocal Type: Strong mezzo with an easy mixed or belted C#.
Oz Secondary roles: Joey, Customs Officer, Mr. Michaels, Terry, Matty, Rabbi, Head Cardiologist. Age Range: 30s–50s.Vocal Type: Strong contemporary Tenor up to G.
Kevin T. Secondary roles: Garth, President Bush. Age Range: 30s–40s. Vocal Type: Strong contemporary Tenor up to G.
Kevin J. Secondary roles: Dwight, Ali. Age Range: 30s–40s. Vocal Type: Tenor or Baritenor.
Bob Secondary roles: Muhumuza, Captain Bristol. Age Range: 20s–40s. Vocal Type: Baritone.
Claude Secondary roles: Derm, Brenda's Brother, Eddie. Age Range: 40s–60s. Vocal Type: Gruff, natural sounding Baritone with a strong high G. Baritone.
Nick Secondary roles: Doug, Officer Stephenson, Male Townsperson. Age Range: 50s–60s. Vocal Type: Warm, natural Baritone or Baritenor with an easy E and strong pop sensibility.
